More than 600 Americans from across the country traveled to Washington at their own expense to advocate for Ukraine during congressional hearings and on the day of the House vote on the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill, designed to increase economic pressure on Russia.
They visited lawmakers’ offices and urged members of Congress to support Ukraine and pass the legislation. Many of these advocates have no Ukrainian heritage. They call themselves “Ukrainians by choice.”
Among them are Colin Berr, who helped deliver more than 50 off-road vehicles to Ukraine; Karla Weber, whose son was killed while defending Ukraine; and a prosecutor from Utah who says the summit represents America at its best by bringing together people of different political and religious backgrounds around a common cause.
As Congress passed the legislation targeting Russia. The Ukraine Action Summit is organized by the American Coalition for Ukraine.
