For 52 days, Yanina Andrieieva had no idea whether her father was still alive. She was in Kyiv and her father, who couldn’t walk and relied on medical care, was in Mairupol. Russian forces were laying siege to the city.
The news finally came — her father was alive. But he was still in Russian-occupied territory, and Yanina had to find a way to get him out. They stayed in touch through voice messages passed along by people who visited him. Even then, he tried to comfort her. “We will definitely meet again,” he said.
