Armenians chose a European future when they re-elected Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his Civil Contract party, says Diane Francis, editor-at-large of the National Post.
But Francis warns that Armenia is now entering “dangerous territory” as Russia watches Yerevan’s westward shift with growing concern. But she says Yerevan can withstand pressure from Moscow with support from Washington and Brussels.
In this interview with Independence Avenue Media, Francis discusses:
- Why Armenia’s election was a geopolitical turning point
- How Russia may respond to Yerevan’s move toward the West
- The role of the United States and President Donald Trump in supporting Pashinyan
- Why the European Union should increase its support for Armenia
- Whether peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is possible
- What Armenia’s future means for Georgia, Ukraine, and the South Caucasus
