Russia’s war against Ukraine is weakening Moscow’s influence across the South Caucasus and reshaping the region’s geopolitical future, says former NSC Senior Director for Europe Michael Carpenter.
In an interview with Independence Avenue Media, Carpenter discusses Armenia’s growing ties with the West, Azerbaijan’s expanding strategic role, and why he believes Georgia is “trending in the opposite direction.”
“Moscow’s influence in the South Caucasus is clearly dramatically weakened,” Carpenter says, pointing to major geopolitical shifts taking place across the region as Russia faces mounting military, economic and strategic pressure from the war in Ukraine.
