U.S. President Donald Trump put the war in Ukraine on the back burner as he is consumed by Iran, allowing Russia’s Vladimir Putin to plot many ways in which the Kremlin may benefit from the U.S. operation in the Middle East, says Angela Stent, a Georgetown University professor who advised the U.S. government on Russia. The longer the war in Iran goes on, she points out, the worse it is for Kyiv, especially as President Trump seems to believe that Putin is winning in Ukraine.
