🐾🇺🇦 Thousands of dogs and cats have been left behind as Russia’s war forces families to flee their homes in eastern Ukraine. Some have lost their owners to Russian attacks. Others have survived bombardment, hunger, and months of living near the front lines.
In Kharkiv, Ukraine, volunteers with Animal Rescue Kharkiv ( @AnimalRescueKharkiv ) are risking their lives to save them.
🚨 During a rescue mission in September 2026, a Russian drone struck the volunteers’ vehicle, injuring two rescuers, including a volunteer from France. Despite the attack, the team saved 30 animals: seven adult dogs, 14 puppies, and nine cats.
🐕 Today, the organization cares for more than 1,500 dogs and 300 cats. Many arrive wounded, malnourished, or severely traumatized. Its team has rescued more than 35,000 animals since it began its work.
❤️ With support from international donors, rescued animals receive veterinary care and a chance at a new life. Some have found loving homes in the United States, Canada, and across Europe.
