Kiryl Sukhotski is the Executive Editor for Russia at IAM, where he oversees deep, nuanced coverage of U.S. foreign policy for Russian-speaking audiences.
He joined IAM from Voice of America, where he developed a digital strategy for its coverage in Russia and across Eurasia. From 2016 to 2023, Kiryl worked in Prague at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, a U.S. Congress-funded international media company, where he led the launch of the 24/7 global Russian-language TV and digital network Current Time, overseeing its content, newsgathering and multimedia production across multiple countries and bureaus.
As RFE/RL’s Regional Director for Europe and TV Production, Kiryl managed the coverage of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, leading teams that won multiple international awards. He also led the coverage of Russia’s complicated affairs in the years prior to that, both at RFE/RL and at Reuters, where he was the head of TV operations in Russia and Eastern Europe from 2012 to 2015. He started his international career at the BBC, where he reported from Moscow and London on Russia’s dramatic shift in domestic and foreign policy.
Kiryl was born in Minsk, Belarus, and got his master’s degree in international journalism from City St. George’s, University of London, with a specialization in covering war conflicts. Over his journalistic career, he has interviewed many presidents, prime ministers, CEOs, political activists and popular figures — from Alexei Navalny and Igor Sechin to Christine Lagarde and Madonna. He has traveled to more than 100 countries and is based in Washington.
