Protecting Kyiv from Russian drone attacks — American businessman Sean Almeida says he is volunteering to defend the skies over the Ukrainian capital to secure his family’s future. A former U.S. Marine, he joined a mobile air defense unit in the summer of 2025, helping intercept Russian drones over Kyiv and the surrounding region. Sean sent his wife and daughter abroad following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but he has continued to live in Kyiv, where he runs a successful real estate business despite the risks. Even amid the war, he sees his family’s future only in Ukraine. Anna Zynevysh reports.
